HOUSTON, Dec. 6, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- SYSCO Corporation (NYSE:SYY), North America's largest foodservice marketer and distributor, announced today that it has promoted Michael W. Green to executive vice president, Northeast and North Central U.S. Foodservice Operations, and Stephen F. Smith to executive vice president, South and West U.S. Foodservice Operations, effective January 1, 2008. Both will report to Kenneth F. Spitler, SYSCO's president and chief operating officer. Mr. Green currently is senior vice president of the company's Midwest region broadline companies, while Mr. Smith serves as senior vice president of the company's Southeast region broadline companies.
"Mike and Steve bring immeasurable foodservice experience to the executive office and will help me devote more time to driving growth and creating leverage across our operating segments," said Mr. Spitler.
Additionally, Scott A. Sonnemaker has been promoted from president of SYSCO's Portland, Oregon company to senior vice president, with responsibility for the West region. John E. Nolan, executive vice president of that operation, will assume responsibilities as president of the company, the position to be vacated by Mr. Sonnemaker. Both promotions will be effective January 1, 2008.
In conjunction with the promotions, SYSCO is restructuring its U.S. broadline regional structure, consolidating five regions (Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest and West) into the following four: Northeast, North Central, South and West.
The Northeast region will continue to be managed by Senior Vice President James M. Danahy, and the region will be expanded. James C. Graham, senior vice president of the Southwest region, will remain in the same role for the new North Central region. James E. Lankford, senior vice president of the West region, will remain in the same role for the new South region.
SYSCO's Canadian foodservice operations are not affected by the new structure and will continue to be managed by G. Kent Humphries, senior vice president, who will continue to report to Mr. Spitler.
