U.S FOODSERVICE INC. PLANS TO SHUT DOWN NORTH STAR FOODSERVICE CENTER

FAIRFIELD - U.S Foodservice Inc. plans to close its North Star Foodservice distribution center at 4235 Thunderbird Lane, which employs 149, by Jan. 11.

North Star distributes food to national restaurant chains. A spokeswoman said the closing was triggered by the loss of a major account she declined to identify. Employees will be offered severance benefits and assistance in finding new jobs, she said. U.S. Foodservice, which operates more than 70 distribution centers around the country, also has a warehouse at 5445 Spellmire Drive, West Chester Township, which serves other types of restaurants, hospitals, hotels and institutions
